The popular game Marvel Rivals has found itself at the center of a heated controversy after receiving over 500 modifications within a single month. Tensions flared when the Nexus Mods website took down mods that humorously swapped Captain America's head with images of political figures Joe Biden and Donald Trump.
TheDarkOne, the owner of Nexus Mods, addressed the situation in a private Reddit discussion, stressing that the decision to remove both the Trump and Biden mods simultaneously was made to maintain impartiality. "We removed the Biden mod on the same day as the Trump mod to avoid bias. But for some reason, YouTube bloggers are silent about it," he stated.
The controversy escalated further when TheDarkOne revealed that following the removal of the mods, he started receiving death threats and derogatory insults. "Today we write death threats, call us pedophiles and all sorts of insults just because someone decided to stir up this topic," he lamented.
This incident is not an isolated case for Nexus Mods. In 2022, the platform faced similar backlash after removing a mod for Spider-Man Remastered that substituted rainbow flags with American flags. The site's owners openly supported inclusivity and diversity, stating their commitment to removing content that goes against these values.
In closing, TheDarkOne expressed frustration with the ongoing disputes, saying, "We're not going to waste our time on people who think this is cause for uproar."
