Conquer the challenges of *Avowed*'s higher-level enemies by upgrading your gear. This guide details how to enhance your weapons and armor to maintain combat effectiveness.
Where to Upgrade Weapons and Armor in *Avowed*

In Avowed, weapon and armor upgrades happen at the Workbench (pictured above). Each upgrade requires specific materials, varying by weapon/armor type and quality. Most materials are readily found or craftable, but upgrading between qualities demands progressively rarer Adra.
Workbenches are located at Party Camps, established near Adra Waystones. Interact with a Waystone to set up camp; these locations are marked with a tent icon on your map and offer fast travel options.
Understanding Weapon and Armor Leveling in *Avowed*
Avowed uses a dual system for weapon and armor power: Quality and additional upgrade tiers. Quality is indicated by a numerical value, color rarity (Green, Blue, Purple, Red, Gold), and an adjective. This directly correlates to enemy levels in the Living Lands. Gear with lower quality than encountered enemies will be significantly less effective.
Underpowered gear will result in reduced damage output and weaker defense. Conversely, matching or exceeding enemy quality ensures optimal performance. Here's the quality breakdown:
- Common: Green, Level I
- Fine: Blue, Level II
- Exceptional: Purple, Level III
- Superb: Red, Level IV
- Legendary: Gold, Level V
Within each quality level, three additional upgrade tiers (+0 to +3) further enhance stats. All three must be completed before progressing to the next quality.
Choosing What to Upgrade

Beyond quality and upgrade tiers, Avowed categorizes gear as standard or unique. Standard items are common loot or merchant purchases, while unique items (named items) are rewards from quests or boss drops; some merchants may also sell unique items.
Unique gear can reach Legendary quality, unlike standard gear (which maxes at Superb). Unique items also boast additional bonuses and perks. Therefore, prioritize upgrading unique weapons and armor, using standard gear as temporary replacements. Sell or dismantle standard gear for resources to support unique item upgrades.
Mastering gear upgrades is key to success in *Avowed*. Now go forth and conquer!
