Zhang Jiao Defeated in Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Conquering Zhang Jiao in Dynasty Warriors: Origins: A Comprehensive Guide

One of the initial hurdles in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is the formidable Zhang Jiao, leader of the Yellow Turbans. This guide details strategies for overcoming him.

Phase 1: A Solo Showdown

This phase is a one-on-one duel in a spacious wasteland. Zhang Jiao employs sorcery, launching stones across the arena. His attacks vary based on your distance:

  • Close Range: Four stones are summoned, demanding swift evasion.
  • Long Range: Eight stones are hurled in pairs, easily dodged by circling him.

Maintain a safe distance when he summons a large volley to avoid significant damage. While primarily a ranged fighter, he possesses close-range combos (parryable) and an area-of-effect (AOE) pushback attack. A white glow signals his AOE charge; retreat to avoid damage.

He later unleashes uncancelable attacks (red aura), including massive rockfalls and clone summoning. The best counter is to maintain distance until the attack concludes. A sword is the recommended weapon for optimal damage output.

Resource Management: Monitor your health. You likely have limited healing opportunities (around four, depending on skill upgrades). Meat buns are strategically placed near the arena entrance; utilize them during breaks in the fighting.

Phase 2: A Tide of Yellow Turbans

Activating Musou Rage initiates Phase 2, bringing Yellow Turban reinforcements. Fortunately, your own army arrives to provide support. Use this opportunity to replenish health with the meat buns. Zhang Jiao introduces tornadoes to disrupt your attacks; be mindful of the wind.

Defeating sufficient soldiers triggers Zhang Jiao's Grand Tactic. You must eliminate 300 soldiers within a short timeframe to prevent a devastating attack. He'll also summon lightning strikes; observe the ground for warning rings before evading. Musou Mode is highly effective for quickly clearing out the soldiers, but basic Musou mode might be more efficient given the time limit.

Successfully countering his Grand Tactic twice returns Zhang Jiao to the battlefield with Phase 1 tactics. With your army's aid, this final phase should be relatively straightforward, concluding Chapter 1.

Victory Achieved!

This strategy should enable you to defeat Zhang Jiao in Dynasty Warriors: Origins, currently available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
