How to Get Golden Rations in Hyper Light Breaker

Quick Links

In the world of Hyper Light Breaker, resources are key to advancing your gameplay, and among these, Golden Rations stand out as the rarest and most crucial. These elusive items are essential for some of the game's most significant upgrades, yet the game itself offers little guidance on how to acquire them. If you're tired of the trial-and-error approach typical of roguelike games, here's a detailed guide on where to find Golden Rations and what they're used for.

Where to Get Golden Rations

In the early access version of Hyper Light Breaker, there are two primary methods to obtain Golden Rations: through exploration and cycle resets. During your runs, keep an eye out for chest icons on the map. These chests often contain resources that can be used for purchases or unlocking upgrades, and you might just find Golden Rations inside. You'll recognize a chest with Golden Rations by the distinctive Golden Ration icon displayed above it.

Areas marked with Prisms, symbolized by a golden diamond icon on the map, are particularly promising as they often have chests containing Golden Rations nearby.

The second method involves cycle resets. A cycle in Hyper Light Breaker corresponds to each instance of the Overgrowth, resetting when your Rez count hits zero. Upon exhausting your revives, you can choose to retry the map, sacrificing some resources, or opt for a full cycle reset at the Cursed Outpost. After a cycle reset, you'll receive a score, and ranking up can reward you with Golden Rations.

What are Golden Rations For?

Golden Rations are vital for progressing in Hyper Light Breaker. They are primarily used at your home base to unlock permanent upgrades for your characters or to access new services from vendors.

Moreover, Golden Rations are essential for unlocking Sycoms, which are crucial items that define your chosen Breaker's stats and core passive abilities. Sycoms essentially shape your Breaker's playstyle, making them highly valuable.

When you first acquire a Golden Ration, we highly recommend using it to purchase the extra medkit upgrade from Pherus Bit. This upgrade can significantly ease future runs, especially given the game's harsh penalties for combat mistakes.

If you die during a run, rest assured that any resources you've collected, including Golden Rations, will remain in your inventory. However, the weapons, amps, and perks you've equipped will suffer one pip's worth of damage, which could lead to their permanent destruction.
