Fortnite Unveils Major Update to Master Chief Skin

In a recent update that has thrilled *Fortnite* enthusiasts, Epic Games has reinstated the unlockable Matte Black style for The Master Chief skin following significant community backlash. Originally, *Fortnite* had announced that this particular style for The Master Chief, which debuted back in 2020, would no longer be accessible. However, after facing criticism from fans, Epic Games has now reversed its decision, allowing players once again to unlock the Matte Black style at their convenience, just as it was initially promised.

December is always an exciting month for *Fortnite* players, with the Winterfest event bringing a host of new NPCs, quests, and items into the game. While the event has been largely celebrated this year, the reintroduction of certain skins has stirred some controversy. Amid these developments, Epic Games took to Twitter to share the positive news about The Master Chief skin, which had last appeared in the Item Shop in 2022. Fans were eagerly anticipating its return in 2024, but the initial announcement on December 23 that the Matte Black style would be removed caused uproar.

The Master Chief Skin's Controversial Return to Fortnite

The decision to alter the availability of the Matte Black style sparked discontent among *Fortnite* players, with some even suggesting that this move could attract scrutiny from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). This concern comes on the heels of the FTC issuing refunds totaling $72 million to *Fortnite* players due to Epic Games' use of "dark patterns." The change not only affected new buyers but also impacted those who had purchased the skin in 2020, as they would have been unable to unlock the style.

The controversy surrounding The Master Chief skin is not an isolated incident. For example, the recent reintroduction of the Renegade Raider skin also divided the *Fortnite* community, with some veteran players threatening to leave the game over the decision. Currently, some fans are advocating for an original (OG) style for those who purchased The Master Chief skin at its launch. While Epic Games has addressed the issue with the Matte Black style, the likelihood of introducing an OG style remains low.
