VNeID: Vietnam's Electronic Identification and Authentication Application

The VNeID application, developed by Vietnam's National Population Data Center (Ministry of Public Security), leverages population data for identification and electronic authentication. Designed for residents and visitors in Vietnam, VNeID offers a digital alternative to physical documents, streamlining various processes.

Key functionalities include citizen identification in digital environments, facilitating digital citizenship, government, and society initiatives. It enables users to submit medical reports and domestic travel declarations, aiding authorities in COVID-19 contact tracing and timely notifications.

Application Access Permissions: Using VNeID requires granting the app access to:

1. Internet Access: For data transmission.
2. Camera Access: To scan CCCD (Citizen Identity Card) QR codes for faster information entry and to scan QR codes at checkpoints for expedited travel and medical declarations.
3. Photo, Video, Audio, and File Access: To store QR code images for verification at checkpoints.
4. Notification Access: To receive alerts and updates.

Personal Information Collection: User-provided data includes name, phone number, citizen identification, gender, birthdate, address, nationality, health status, travel details (origin, destination, vehicle information), and COVID-19 exposure information. Data collection is strictly permission-based, requiring user consent via form submission. Users are responsible for the accuracy and legality of their input.

Privacy and Copyright Protection: The National Population Data Center secures user data, using it solely for COVID-19 prevention and control, public health, and disease prevention. Commercial use or privacy invasion is strictly prohibited. Data sharing may occur with health authorities and other relevant agencies to enhance COVID-19 prevention efforts. No other data collection or use occurs beyond these stated purposes. The application adheres to Vietnamese law and its policy to protect user privacy and will not engage in any illegal activities.

Key Privacy Features:

• No Location Tracking: VNeID does not collect location data.
• Anonymity: Community participation is anonymous, with only authorized authorities accessing information on infected and suspected individuals for contact tracing purposes.
