11 Bit Studios, the renowned Polish developer, has unveiled another captivating trailer for their eagerly anticipated sci-fi adventure, The Alters, which is inching closer to its release date. Amidst the excitement, the studio paused to honor one of their most iconic creations: the wartime survival game This War of Mine, which catapulted them to international acclaim over a decade ago.
While This War of Mine is celebrated for its stark and somber atmosphere, The Alters introduces a more vibrant and frequently humorous narrative, focusing on the trials of alternate versions of protagonist Jan Dolski. Despite these significant tonal shifts, the developers highlight a deep-seated connection between the two games.
Though the settings and tones differ markedly, both titles are united by the theme of survival. In This War of Mine, players grapple with the brutal realities of war within a besieged city, meticulously managing resources and facing daily struggles to keep their group alive. On the other hand, The Alters frames survival as a relentless race against time, with players compelled to maneuver their mobile base to escape an unforgiving sun that obliterates everything in its path.
Both games challenge players to step beyond their comfort zones and brave hostile territories in pursuit of scarce resources. The primary distinction lies in the protagonists: while This War of Mine has players leading a group of ordinary civilians, The Alters introduces a unique ensemble made up of alternate versions of the main character, Jan Dolski.
The Alters is scheduled to launch in 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Excitingly, it will be available on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass right from day one, ensuring a wide audience can dive into this innovative survival adventure.
