Alan Wake 2 has surpassed the impressive milestone of 2 million sales worldwide, marking a significant achievement for the horror sequel. This number is a substantial increase from the 1.3 million copies sold between October 2023 and March 2024, a period during which developer Remedy celebrated the game as its fastest-selling title to date.
In its most recent financial report to investors, Remedy highlighted that this sales milestone, combined with the launch of The Lake House expansion and the Alan Wake 2 Deluxe Edition, signifies that the game has now begun to generate royalties. This comes after the game successfully recouped its development and marketing expenses.
Looking forward, Remedy is not slowing down. The studio has shared exciting updates about its upcoming projects. Control 2, developed in collaboration with Annapurna, is nearing the end of its production readiness stage. The game is set to enter full production by the end of February 2025. Similarly, the Max Payne 1&2 Remake is making steady progress and is already in full production.
Additionally, FBC: Firebreak, Remedy's multiplayer spin-off of Control, is also in full production. Following a "successful" closed technical test in December, which involved external players testing matchmaking and back-end services, the game is slated for a self-published release by Remedy later in 2025.
CEO Tero Virtala expressed confidence in the company's future, stating, "We are in a great place to begin our strategy period and have set targets we are confident in reaching."
In IGN's review of Alan Wake 2, the sequel received a glowing 9/10 score. IGN praised it as a "superb survival horror sequel that makes the cult classic original seem like little more than a rough first draft by comparison."
