Ubisoft's latest addition to its iconic stealth-action open-world series, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, has finally arrived. Set in 16th-century Japan, players now step into the roles of Naoe and Yasuke. This marks the 14th entry in the core Assassin’s Creed series, which began back in 2007 with Desmond Miles exploring his ancestor Altaïr’s memories via the Animus. With over 30 games under the Assassin’s Creed banner, we're focusing on the mainline entries here, excluding mobile, side-scrolling, VR, and spin-offs like Bloodlines or Liberation.
I've taken the liberty of ranking these mainline games based on my personal enjoyment using an IGN Tier List. Check it out below:
Simon Cardy's Assassin's Creed Tier List
Topping my S-tier is Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, an entry that I hold dear due to its thrilling blend of island exploration, ship combat, and a vibrant cast of characters. It's joined by Assassin’s Creed 2, the game that truly propelled the series into the spotlight. In the A-tier, you'll find Valhalla, which might surprise some, but the Viking-inspired combat and the addictive Orlog minigame won me over. Alongside it sits Unity, whose stunning recreation of French Revolution-era Paris still impresses a decade on.
Do you disagree with my rankings? Perhaps you find Valhalla too expansive or believe Assassin’s Creed 2 is overrated? Feel free to create your own tier list and compare your S, A, B, C, and D tiers with the IGN community. You can do so using the interactive tool below:
