Initially launched in September 2024, Astro Bot exceeded expectations. Building upon the popular Astro's Playroom tech demo, it offered a greatly expanded experience with numerous PlayStation cameos. Quickly becoming the highest-rated new game of 2024, its success culminated in a Game of the Year win at The Game Awards 2024. While this achievement is monumental, Astro Bot's award count still lags behind industry giants like Baldur's Gate 3 (288 awards), Elden Ring (435 awards), and The Last of Us Part 2 (326 awards). Nevertheless, Astro Bot's commercial success is undeniable, surpassing 1.5 million copies sold by November 2024 – a significant achievement for a title developed by a relatively small team (under 70 developers) over three years.
