Another mobile game has met its end-of-service (EOS) fate, and this time it's Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten Alchemy and the Polar Night Liberator. Koei Tecmo and Akatsuki Games have announced that their RPG will soon be shutting down its global version. Despite launching globally in January 2024, the game struggled to maintain player engagement, leading to this unfortunate decision. We'll delve into the reasons behind the EOS later, but first, let's highlight an interesting contrast.
While the global version faces closure, the Japanese version of Atelier Resleriana continues to thrive. Launched in September 2023, it's preparing to celebrate its 1.5th anniversary in March 2025. This stark difference highlights the game's varying success across regions.
When Is the Atelier Resleriana EOS?
The irony couldn't be more palpable: the global version's EOS is set for March 28th, 2025, the same month the Japanese version celebrates its 1.5th anniversary. At that point, while Japanese players will be enjoying Chapter 22 (Part 2), global players will be concluding their journey at Chapter 21 (Part 1).
The in-game purchase system has already been disabled, but any remaining Lodestar Gems can still be used until the game's final days. Koei Tecmo has also committed to providing new content and events until the shutdown. Adding to the irony, the global version celebrated its first anniversary just on January 25th, making the EOS announcement even more bittersweet.
Why Is It Shutting Down?
The developers cited their inability to maintain the game at a satisfactory standard for players as the primary reason for the shutdown. Indeed, Atelier Resleriana struggled to make a significant impact globally. Shortly after its launch, players voiced frustrations over the game's gacha system. Despite commendable main characters, the gameplay and monetization models, coupled with significant power creep, failed to retain the player base.
These factors culminated in the decision to end the global version of Atelier Resleriana. If you wish to bid farewell to the game, you can find it on the Google Play Store.
