Breath of Fire IV has made a remarkable comeback on PC, a full 25 years after its initial launch. Originally released on the PlayStation in Japan and North America in 2000, and subsequently in Europe in 2001, this beloved Capcom role-playing game saw its first PC port in Europe and Japan in 2003. The storyline follows Ryu—a character distinct from Capcom's famous Street Fighter Ryu—who possesses the unique ability to transform into a dragon. Alongside a band of warriors, Ryu embarks on a quest to thwart an emperor's apocalyptic ambitions.
Thanks to GOG's ongoing Preservation Program, Breath of Fire IV has been meticulously updated for modern PCs and is now available DRM-free on their platform. This enhanced version boasts full compatibility with Windows 10 and 11, and offers both English and Japanese localizations. The game's visuals have been significantly improved with an upgraded DirectX renderer, introducing new display options such as Windowed Mode, V-Sync, Anti-Aliasing, and refined gamma correction. Additionally, the audio engine has seen upgrades, with the restoration of missing environmental sounds and new configuration options, ensuring an immersive experience.
