Shogun Season 2 Set a Decade Later, Cosmo Jarvis Returns

The acclaimed series Shōgun, which secured an impressive 18 Emmy Awards and 4 Golden Globes, is officially returning for a second season, with plans actively moving forward. According to an official press release from FX, Cosmo Jarvis, who portrays the pilot John Blackthorne, has committed to reprising his role in Season 2 and will also step into a co-executive producer role.

Furthermore, lead actor Hiroyuki Sanada — who confirmed his return last May after the show was renewed despite initially being billed as a limited series — has been elevated to an executive producer after serving as a producer during the first season. Production on Season 2 is scheduled to start in January 2026, returning to Vancouver, where the original series was filmed.

FX described the second season as a completely new chapter that follows the first, which was based on James Clavell’s novel of the same title. Regarding the connection between both seasons, the network provided this context:

“In Season 1, Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Sanada) struggled to survive as his adversaries on the Council of Regents aligned against him. After a mysterious European vessel washed ashore in a nearby fishing village, its English pilot, John Blackthorne (Jarvis), shared critical information that ultimately helped Toranaga turn the tables in a historic civil war.

“Season 2 picks up a decade later, continuing the historically inspired journey of these two men from vastly different backgrounds, whose destinies remain deeply interwoven.”

With any luck, new episodes of this outstanding series will arrive by late 2026 — for now, though, we patiently wait in anticipation.
