A uniquely charming new game is on its way to Android. It's titled Cato: Buttered Cat. If you're curious about the unusual name, let me explain. "Cato" is a blend of the words "cat" and "toast," and the game's concept perfectly mirrors this fusion.
Have you ever pondered what might occur if you attached a piece of buttered toast to a cat's back? Perhaps not, and I hadn't either. But the developers behind Cato: Buttered Cat certainly did, and now they invite you to discover the answer. According to the playful premise, the cat never actually lands, entering a perpetual, glorious anti-gravity spin!
Cato: Buttered Cat originally began as a submission for the 2022 BOOOM Gamejam competition organized by GCORES. Created by Team Woll, the project received such positive reception that the team decided to develop it into a complete game.
The game launched on Steam for PC players today. However, it will soon arrive on Android and other platforms. While the Google Play listing isn't live yet, you can visit the official TapTap page for the Android version to pre-register.
It's a puzzle-platformer where you simultaneously control a cat and a slice of buttered toast. Working together, they solve puzzles, overcome enemies, and explore a series of whimsical worlds.
You can explore five distinct worlds, each filled with quirky machines and contraptions. The game features 200 levels in total, including side quests. Fragments of the narrative are hidden throughout the levels for you to uncover and assemble. There are also 30 different costumes to collect.
One of the most engaging mechanics is the interaction between the cat and the toast. The cat can climb, run, and perform other feline maneuvers, while the toast functions like a projectile. You can power it up and launch it to help the cat access otherwise unreachable areas.
Cato: Buttered Cat is also packed with secret rooms and numerous Easter eggs. With that in mind, take a look at the game in action below!
I'm looking forward to its Android release! In the meantime, you might enjoy our coverage of Operation Lucent Arrowhead, the second Arknights and Rainbow Six Siege crossover event.
