Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has achieved a remarkable 2 million copies sold within 12 days of release, doubling its initial 1 million sales recorded three days post-launch.
Notably, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 launched as a day-one Game Pass title alongside Bethesda’s Oblivion Remastered, making this milestone even more significant for French developer Sandfall Interactive and publisher Kepler Interactive.
“We’ve been thrilled to see so many players embark on this journey,” stated a social media post. “We feel every moment, every emotion, and every discovery with you.
“To new players: welcome.
“The adventure continues.”
When Bethesda unexpectedly released The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered alongside the role-playing game Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, many predicted a clear winner. Yet, both titles found success, proving there was ample space for both.
According to Kepler Interactive, the release of Oblivion not only coexisted with Clair Obscur but also amplified excitement for the RPG genre, benefiting both games.
Matt Handrahan, senior portfolio manager at Kepler Interactive, shared with The Game Business last week: “We always believed Expedition 33 had a distinct identity. In my time in the press, I saw Western and Japanese RPGs appealing to different audiences. Many who enjoy Elder Scrolls might not play Final Fantasy, and vice versa.
“By launch, we had built our own momentum and felt confident standing alongside Oblivion. Factors like our price point and Game Pass inclusion fueled strong interest. The outcome exceeded our expectations, and Oblivion’s release actually spotlighted quality RPGs that week, boosting the genre’s visibility.”
The success of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has earned praise from French President Macron for the development team. Be sure to explore our tips for key insights before diving into the game.
