A new Digimon video game, tentatively titled Digimon Story: Time Stranger, has seemingly been leaked through GameStop listings, just ahead of tonight's PlayStation State of Play presentation. This intriguing development was first spotted by Gematsu, which shared pre-order links for the game on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Although the GameStop pages lack images or gameplay details, the timing suggests we might hear more official news soon.
The leak comes just hours before Sony's latest State of Play event, which is scheduled to feature 40 minutes of content. While Sony has kept the lineup under wraps, the sudden appearance of Digimon Story: Time Stranger pre-orders hints at a potential reveal during the presentation.
The Digimon Story series has a rich history that dates back to the original Digimon Story for the Nintendo DS in the mid-2000s. Since then, the franchise has seen numerous releases across various platforms, including Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth in 2015 and its sequel, Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – Hacker’s Memory in 2017. A Complete Edition bundling both Cyber Sleuth titles was released in 2019.
In these games, players are typically transported into the Digimon world, where they befriend and battle alongside digital monsters in RPG-style gameplay. Despite franchise producer Kazumashu Habu teasing a new Story game in 2022, fans have been eagerly awaiting a new installment. While games like Digimon Survive have helped bridge the gap, the potential announcement of Digimon Story: Time Stranger could mark the long-awaited return of the series.
