How to Opt Out of Crossplay in Black Ops 6 for Xbox and PS5

Aug 03,2025 Author: Thomas

Cross-platform gaming has transformed online play, uniting the Call of Duty community. Yet, crossplay has its challenges. Here’s a guide to turning off crossplay in Black Ops 6 for a tailored gaming experience.

Is Turning Off Crossplay in Black Ops 6 Worth It?

Opting out of crossplay in Black Ops 6 has pros and cons. Many players disable it to level the playing field, ensuring a fairer match. Console gamers on Xbox and PlayStation often prefer this to avoid competing against PC players with different control advantages.

Console players may benefit from disabling crossplay, as PC users often use mouse and keyboard, which offer superior aiming precision compared to controllers. PC players might also have easier access to cheats, despite Call of Duty’s Ricochet Anti-Cheat system. Reports of hackers persist in Black Ops 6 and Warzone, and turning off crossplay could reduce encounters with cheaters in lobbies.

On the downside, disabling crossplay shrinks the available player pool, which can make matchmaking slower and lead to less stable connections in lobbies. In our tests, finding matches took longer, and connection quality sometimes suffered.

Steps to Disable Crossplay in Black Ops 6

Disabling crossplay in Black Ops 6 is simple. Navigate to the Account & Network settings, where the Crossplay and Crossplay Communications options are located at the top. Toggle them off by pressing X or A. You can adjust this setting from Black Ops 6, Warzone, or the main Call of Duty HQ page. Note that the image above shows the Crossplay setting accessed via Quick Settings after favoriting it.

Once toggled, the setting may appear locked in certain modes, like Ranked Play, where Call of Duty has historically required crossplay for fairness. However, this can feel counterproductive. Starting in Season 2 of Black Ops 6, players will have the option to disable crossplay even in high-stakes modes, giving more control over opponents.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
