In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, there's no direct sprint button; your character will naturally break into a sprint after running for a few steps. While sprinting is a good way to move quickly, navigating the vast battlefields to reach other officers in time to save them and secure victory can be challenging. This is where your horse becomes essential, as it can be summoned at any time in the overworld or during battle. You can even engage in combat from horseback, perfect for those who prefer a hit-and-run strategy. Let's dive into how to unlock your first horse, level it up, and switch between different horses.

How To Unlock The First Horse In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Unlocking your first horse in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is straightforward and free. During Chapter 1, after completing the second major battle, "Test Of Zheng Fei," a merchant will appear in the overworld as you head towards the Battle Of Guangzong. You'll find him northeast of Wan Castle but before reaching the camp, standing next to his horse. Simply talk to the merchant, and he'll gift you the horse, which will automatically be equipped.

To summon your horse and mount it instantly, press down on the left joystick if you're playing on a console, or press the 'V' key on a keyboard.

How To Level Up Your Horse In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Leveling up your horse in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is tied to the missions you complete while it's equipped. Your horse will earn XP from completing main story battles and missions, but not from Skirmishes. Missions are identified by a red diamond with a soldier icon in the center and typically involve medium-length fights. The amount of XP your horse earns depends on the battle's duration, how much you ride your horse, and how often you use it to charge into enemies. As your horse levels up, it gains access to unique buffs at various levels, which differ for each horse.

How To Switch Horses In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Your first horse comes equipped automatically, but you'll have opportunities to acquire and switch to other horses. You can manage your horses in the Battle Preparation menu, which is the last option on the left side of the screen. Each horse offers different perks, and some are inherently faster or better than others, so it's wise to consider switching when you acquire a new one. To obtain new horses, you need to maximize the peace level of a region, after which a new horse will be available as a reward at a nearby waypoint.
