A Daily Duel: New Weapons, Zero Hits

Rather than passively awaiting Elden Ring: Nightreign, chickensandwich420 devised a unique challenge: defeating Messmer the Impaler daily on NG+7, using a different weapon each time and achieving a flawless victory (zero hits taken).

This self-imposed trial began December 16, 2024, as showcased on his YouTube channel. Initially planning a broader FromSoftware boss marathon, his university studies led him to focus on this singular, demanding task.

Messmer, the notoriously difficult second boss in Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, presents a significant hurdle. Players report needing 30 to over 150 attempts to defeat him, even with optimal equipment. chickensandwich420's challenge is truly remarkable.

However, there's a caveat: a self-imposed June deadline. If Nightreign doesn't launch by then, he'll shift his focus to other games. This equates to over 160 Messmer battles. At the time of writing, he's reached day 23.

Elden Ring: Nightreign, a standalone three-player co-op adventure set within the Elden Ring universe, was announced at The Game Awards 2024, with a planned 2025 release. Given FromSoftware's history, however, the actual release date remains uncertain. Only time will reveal if chickensandwich420's dedication will be rewarded with Nightreign's timely arrival, or if a delayed launch will bring his impressive Messmer marathon to a premature end.
