Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC Version: Director's Insights on Mods and Potential DLC
The director of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Naoki Hamaguchi, recently shared insights into the game's PC version, addressing modding and the possibility of future DLC. Read on for details.
DLC: A Fan-Driven Decision
While the development team initially considered adding episodic DLC to the PC release, they ultimately prioritized completing the final installment of the Remake trilogy. Hamaguchi stated that resource constraints made focusing on the concluding game their top priority. However, he remains open to adding content based on strong player demand. Substantial player requests could influence the decision to create and release future DLC.
A Message to the Modding Community
While the game lacks official mod support, Hamaguchi acknowledged the inevitable interest from the modding community. He extended a request for respectful and appropriate creations, urging modders to refrain from offensive or inappropriate content.
The potential for creative and beneficial mods, ranging from enhanced visuals to new features, is acknowledged. However, the director's plea for responsible modding reflects the need to maintain a positive and inclusive gaming environment.
PC Version Enhancements
The PC version boasts upgraded graphics, including improved lighting and higher-resolution textures. Addressing a common criticism of the original release, lighting rendering has been adjusted to mitigate the "uncanny valley effect" on character faces. Higher-end PCs will also benefit from improved 3D models and textures exceeding the PS5's capabilities.
The porting process presented challenges, particularly in adapting the mini-games to PC controls. Implementing unique key configurations for these elements proved to be a significant undertaking.
