Final Fantasy IX Celebrates 25 Years
Anniversary Website Unveiled

Square Enix has revealed a dedicated 25th anniversary website for Final Fantasy IX, announcing plans for "various commemorative projects including merchandise and collaborations."
The anniversary store features an array of FFIX collectibles - character figurines, plush toys, vinyl records, soundtrack CDs, and illustrated storybooks. The company promises additional announcements leading up to the anniversary date.
Originally launching on July 7, 2000 for PlayStation, FFIX has sold over 8.9 million copies globally. The game received multiple re-releases, including a 2012 Japanese anniversary collection, mobile remasters in 2016, and current-generation console ports between 2017-2019.
Potential FFIX Remake and Anime Project Status

The anniversary launch has reignited rumors about a potential FFIX remake. Following the success of Final Fantasy VII's remake series, fans speculate FFIX - ranked 4th best in NHK's 2019 fan poll - might receive similar treatment, though the website makes no direct remake confirmation.
Another uncertain project is the previously announced animated series "Final Fantasy IX: The Black Mages' Legacy." Revealed in 2021 as a post-game story following Vivi's descendants, the anime's production stalled after rights-holder Cyber Group Studios filed for bankruptcy in late 2024.
Despite the setback, potential buyers including United Smile and Newen Studios have expressed interest in acquiring the FFIX anime rights to continue production.
