Game director Hamaguchi has shared that the team is diligently working on the sequel to Final Fantasy VII, but he has urged fans to remain patient as new details will be revealed in due time. According to Hamaguchi, 2024 marked a successful year for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the second part of the trilogy, which garnered numerous awards and captivated players worldwide. The team is now focused on expanding the fan base of Final Fantasy VII and plans to introduce unique challenges in the upcoming third installment.
Interestingly, Hamaguchi also mentioned that Grand Theft Auto VI caught his attention this year. He expressed his support for the Rockstar Games team, acknowledging the immense pressure they face following the phenomenal success of GTA V.
While specifics about the third part of the trilogy remain under wraps, Hamaguchi assured that development is progressing smoothly. It's worth noting that the team is still actively working on Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which was released less than a year ago. Hamaguchi promised that players can expect something unique from the upcoming game.
On another note, Final Fantasy XVI, launched in May 2024, experienced disappointing initial sales that continued to decline, ultimately falling short of the fiscal year's projections. Square Enix has not disclosed the exact sales figures for Final Fantasy XVI or the most recent sales data for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which also did not meet the company's expectations. However, Square Enix does not view the sales of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth as a complete failure. There is still optimism that Final Fantasy XVI can meet its goals within the next 18 months.
