Troubleshooting Path of Exile 2 PC Freezing Issues
Grinding Gear Games' Path of Exile 2, a Diablo-like action RPG, has encountered freezing issues for some players. These freezes sometimes necessitate a hard reboot. While an official patch is awaited, several workarounds can mitigate the problem:
Initial Troubleshooting Steps:
- Graphics API: Experiment with switching between Vulkan and DirectX 11 at game launch.
- V-Sync: Disable V-Sync in the game's graphics settings.
- Multithreading: Deactivate multithreading in the graphics settings.
Advanced Solution (Courtesy of Steam user svzanghi):
If the above steps fail, this method allows for a less disruptive game restart, avoiding full PC reboots:
- Launch the Game: Start Path of Exile 2.
- Open Task Manager: Access your PC's Task Manager and select the "Details" tab.
- Adjust CPU Affinity: Right-click on the
POE2.exe
process and choose "Set Affinity."
- Disable Cores: Uncheck the boxes for CPU 0 and CPU 1.
This workaround prevents complete system freezes, enabling a task manager-initiated game closure and relaunch. However, you must repeat this process each time you start the game, or risk encountering further freezes requiring a full PC restart.
