NPIXEL has officially announced the closure of Gran Saga, marking the end of its brief international journey. The game's service will terminate on April 30th, 2025, and in-app purchases (IAPs) along with downloads have already been disabled. While Gran Saga enjoyed a successful launch in Japan back in 2021, its global version, which debuted in November 2024, lasted only six months before the decision to shut down was made.
The primary reason for the closure appears to be financial instability and the challenge of maintaining a sustainable service. Despite its initial appeal, Gran Saga struggled to secure a strong position in the highly competitive global market. The genre is dominated by established games with loyal player bases, making it difficult for newcomers to succeed without offering something truly innovative. The success Gran Saga experienced in Japan did not translate to international markets, resulting in its early termination.

This closure is part of a broader trend of gacha RPGs shutting down. Just last month, I discussed the closure of My Hero Academia: The Strongest Hero, and it's not the only one. Several other games have also succumbed to the pressures of an oversaturated market. With numerous options available, players often prefer to stick with familiar titles, making it challenging for new or niche games to maintain long-term viability.

If you were a player exploring Ethprozen, this farewell is undoubtedly difficult, yet it's becoming increasingly common in the mobile gaming landscape.
