Keep Your Guard Up

Xu Wu is an exceptionally agile adversary in Monster Hunter Wilds. Its unpredictable movements can be frustrating, especially due to its unique shape. Similar to Nu Udra, its black skin makes it challenging to discern its front from its back. Be prepared to face its multiple arms and its ability to slip into walls and vanish momentarily. It often reappears on the ceiling, attempting to drop down on you. This tactic is exclusive to its nest, so exercise extra caution when battling in this area.

Use Ice Attacks

In Monster Hunter Wilds, Xu Wu is particularly vulnerable to Ice-based attacks. Utilize Ice ammo if you're a ranged fighter, or equip melee weapons with gear that inflicts Ice elemental damage. Enhance your equipment with a Frost Jewel decoration to gain the Ice Attack skill. Carrying a Frost Pod is also advisable, as it can deliver minor Ice damage effectively.

Avoid the Grab Attack

Xu Wu employs a variety of attacks, including a dangerous grab move in Monster Hunter Wilds. If ensnared, you'll be unable to use your regular weapons. You have a brief two-second window to escape. Using your slinger, especially with Frost Pods, is the most effective way to break free from its grasp.

Attack Xu Wu’s Mouth

The mouth of Xu Wu is its most vulnerable spot, though it's concealed beneath its body. You'll typically only see it when the monster lunges at you. A well-timed, powerful attack during this moment can cause substantial damage and potentially break its mouth, rewarding you with Xu Wu's fang. If targeting the mouth proves difficult, the head is another viable option, boasting a 4-star weakness to blunt and cut damage and a 3-star weakness to ammo damage.

Use Poison

Xu Wu exhibits a 3-star weakness to Poison, making it an excellent choice for inflicting this status ailment. A bow with Poison Coating is particularly effective. While other status ailments can be used, avoid Sleep, as it's less effective against this monster.

Once you've reduced Xu Wu's health to 20 percent, you can attempt to capture it. Use either a Pitfall Trap or a Shock Trap for this purpose. Baiting with meat can be helpful, or you can use yourself as bait to lure the monster into the trap. Quickly follow up with a tranquilizer shot to prevent Xu Wu from escaping. You have only a few seconds to act before it breaks free.

That's all you need to know about hunting and capturing Xu Wu in Monster Hunter Wilds. Given its agility, always keep an eye on your stamina bar to stay in the fight.

Monster Hunter Wilds is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
