Hollow Knight: Silksong Set for Pre-Holiday 2025 Release, Not Linked to Xbox Handheld Launch

The team behind Hollow Knight: Silksong has clarified the game’s brief mention during Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase 2025, where it appeared alongside the new ROG Ally X handheld.

In the presentation, Xbox president Sarah Bond announced that Silksong would be “available at launch and on Game Pass when Ally releases later this year,” prompting fans to assume the game was tied to the new hardware’s Holiday 2025 debut.

However, Team Cherry, the game’s developer, has since debunked this connection.

In a statement on the game’s official Discord, shared with IGN, Team Cherry’s marketing manager Matthew 'Leth' Griffin emphasized that Silksong’s release is not dependent on the ROG Ally X launch and is slated for before the holiday season.

“I confirmed BEFORE Holiday,” Griffin stated, clarifying, “we are not tied to a console release.”

When pressed on which holiday, Griffin confirmed, “Christmas, yes.”

How soon before Christmas will Silksong launch? Notably, the game will be playable in September at Australia’s national museum of screen culture in Melbourne, starting September 18. Could this signal a release as early as that date?

Fans of Silksong had anticipated clearer release details from the Xbox Games Showcase, especially after recent updates to the game’s Steam page hinted at a possible imminent launch or surprise drop.

Instead, Xbox used its shadow drop slot for Final Fantasy 16’s delayed release, leaving Silksong fans still awaiting the highly anticipated Metroidvania. With Christmas just six months away, the wait is narrowing.

IGN has tested the ROG Ally X, which could be an option for playing Silksong upon its release, whenever the handheld launches.
