HoYoverse appears to be broadening its Honkai universe with a potential new game. Chinese developer miHoYo and its global arm HoYoverse have filed a trademark application for "Honkai Nexus Anima". While no additional details are available about this new intellectual property, the title hints it could become the third main installment in the Honkai series, succeeding Honkai Impact 3rd and Honkai Star Rail.
The Honkai Nexus Anima application was briefly visible on the Korea Intellectual Property Information Search (KIPRIS) portal before being removed. However, the U.S. trademark filing remains accessible through the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) website.
The Honkai series began with Honkai Impact 3rd, a free-to-play mobile action RPG considered the spiritual successor to Houkai Gakuen 2, a classic 2D side-scrolling shooter. This was followed by the 2023 release of Honkai Star Rail, another free-to-play mobile title featuring turn-based combat mechanics.
Though both games share thematic elements related to space and occasional character similarities, they exist in distinct universes with independent narratives. Given miHoYo's diverse game portfolio, enthusiasts theorize Honkai Nexus Anima may follow this pattern while introducing a different gameplay genre.

Earlier this year, miHoYo published several job openings that offered clues about the company's current developments. According to GosuGamers, citing @chibi0108 on Twitter, the studio is developing an "auto-chess" style game where players utilize "Destined Spirits" in combat. It's important to note the original job posting is no longer accessible, making these details speculative at present.
While HoYoverse hasn't officially confirmed these speculations or announced the game, many fans associate Honkai Nexus Anima with the auto-chess project mentioned in the job listings. Despite the absence of official confirmation, expectations run high for miHoYo's next release given their successful track record with Honkai Impact 3rd, Genshin Impact, Honkai Star Rail, Zenless Zone Zero, and other titles.
