The much-anticipated Heart of Democracy major update for Helldivers 2 is now live on PC and PlayStation 5, bringing the thrilling action to Super Earth. As previously leaked, this update introduces Super Earth maps where players can engage in missions within Mega Cities, fighting back against the Illuminate invasion alongside SEAF soldiers. The city biomes feature operations crucial to liberating these urban areas, significantly impacting the ongoing Galactic War, a dynamic, community-driven meta narrative crafted by developer Arrowhead.
According to the PlayStation Blog, the Helldivers' new mission is to push back the Illuminate by securing areas where their fleet is landing. This challenge is likened to an intergalactic tug-of-war, with players gaining and losing control swiftly. Players can activate Planetary Defense Cannons to take down the Illuminate fleet, as seen in the trailer. Additionally, SEAF troops will assist in defending the cities, either fighting independently or following Helldivers to provide temporary support. However, players must remain cautious of civilians still roaming the streets, as Helldivers 2 emphasizes both friendly fire management and alien combat.
The Heart of Democracy update underscores Arrowhead's dedication to sustaining Helldivers 2 for the long haul following its record-breaking launch. Addressing player concerns about the studio's focus, Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani reassured fans, stating, "Nah. It's ALL Helldivers 2 for now. A very, very small team will spin up something later this year and go at it sloowly. Helldivers is our main focus and will be for a loooong time." Jorjani also highlighted that the longevity of content updates hinges on player engagement and the purchase of Super Credits, the game's virtual currency used for Premium Warbonds. He noted a turnaround from last summer's uncertainties, crediting the community's support for the game's bright future.
