James Gunn Wants Guardians of the Galaxy\

James Gunn, the head of DC Studios, is known for collaborating with familiar faces in his projects. Now, an actress from Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy confirms discussions with Gunn about a role in the upcoming DC Universe.

The DCU aims to create a successful shared universe, unlike its predecessor, the DCEU. While the DCEU had some box office successes, it suffered from internal conflicts and inconsistent storytelling. Gunn, renowned for his work on the Guardians of the Galaxy films, hopes to avoid these pitfalls and potentially bring some familiar actors into the DC fold.

According to Agents of Fandom, Pom Klementieff, who played Mantis in Guardians of the Galaxy, recently confirmed conversations with Gunn about a specific DCU role. At San Antonio's Superhero Comic Con, when asked which DC character she'd like to portray, Klementieff playfully responded, "Do you really think I’m going to answer this question?” She did, however, confirm that Gunn has a particular character in mind for her.

Klementieff expressed her desire to continue working with Gunn, stating, "I just want to keep working with James, so we’re going to keep trying to find ways to do that. Yes, we’ve been talking about one specific character, but I can’t talk about that right now." She also fondly recalled her experience working on Guardians of the Galaxy, highlighting her journey from aspiring X-Men actress to a key player in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Regarding a potential return as Mantis, Klementieff stated, "I'm always open to it, I love the character. I'm sure the fans would love to see it, but I don't know. It depends on the project."

Klementieff's comments corroborate previous statements she made about joining Gunn's DCU. Gunn himself confirmed these conversations on Threads, clarifying that the role is not in his upcoming Superman film and that they've discussed a different, specific character. Neither Gunn nor Klementieff has revealed details about this character.

Gunn's practice of casting familiar actors, including his brother and wife, has drawn criticism. However, many filmmakers employ similar practices, and some argue that this criticism is unfair. Ultimately, whether Klementieff is the right choice for the role remains to be seen.

Guardians of the Galaxy films are available on Disney+.
