Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Opening Weekend Success
250,000+ Concurrent Steam Players And Counting
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) has surpassed a staggering 250,000 concurrent players on Steam as of February 9, 2025. Creative Director Daniel Vávra announced via Twitter (X) that the game hit a peak of 256,206 players. Since its release, KCD2 has consistently broken its own concurrent player record each day from February 4 to February 9.
- February 4: 159,351 concurrent Steam players
- February 5: 176,285 concurrent Steam players
- February 6: 185,582 concurrent Steam players
- February 7: 190,194 concurrent Steam players
- February 8: 233,586 concurrent Steam players
- February 9: 256,206 concurrent Steam players
Reports indicate that KCD2 has sold approximately 890,000 copies on Steam alone. Currently, it ranks as the 2nd top-selling game on Steam, only behind Counter-Strike 2, and is the 5th most-played game, trailing CS2, Dota 2, Marvel Rivals, and Banana.
The game sold 1 million copies on its launch day and is estimated to be approaching 2 million copies sold in total.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Attention To Detail

The phenomenal success of KCD2's opening weekend can be attributed to Warhorse Studios' meticulous attention to detail, enhancing immersion and player engagement. Known for its commitment to realism, the series continues to push boundaries. Features such as food spoiling, the need to clean clothes and armor, and the necessity to sharpen swords have been further refined in KCD2, immersing players in a 15th-century medieval setting.
Senior Game Designer Ondřej Bittner highlighted a new stealth mechanic to GamesRadar, explaining that as players accumulate dirt and grime, they can acquire a debuff. "If you get the debuff that, you know, your body odour, you smell. There's like a circle around you," Bittner said. "Basically, you're broadcasting, like, I'm here."
Additionally, KCD2 introduces "handgonnes," early firearms accurately depicted for the era. Bittner shared with PC Gamer that these weapons were challenging to use, with long reload times, poor accuracy, and safety concerns, acknowledging them as "meme weapons" but embracing their historical significance.
PR Manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling emphasized their goal of authenticity over hyperaccuracy, stating, "We want to have an intriguing and cool and fun and nice videogame. However, we try extremely hard to make it as authentic as possible. We double check the stuff, so that when the player plays it, or whenever someone checks it, that the things that are listed in there are at least plausible."
Post-Launch Roadmap

Warhorse Studios has outlined a comprehensive post-launch roadmap to keep players engaged. KCD2 will offer free updates and paid DLC content throughout 2025.
Free updates planned for Spring 2025 include the Barber feature, Hardcore mode, and Horse Racing. Paid DLCs are scheduled for Summer (Brushes with Death), Autumn (Legacy of the Forge), and Winter (Mysteria Ecclesiae).
With its remarkable opening weekend performance, KCD2 is poised to continue its commercial success with these engaging updates and future DLCs, potentially setting new records along the way.
