MageTrain: Fast-Paced Pixel Roguelike Now on Android

Tidepool Games has just released an exhilarating new game on Android called MageTrain, a fast-paced pixel art game that combines elements of Snake, auto-battlers, and roguelikes. If you enjoyed Nimble Quest, you'll find MageTrain strikingly familiar as it draws significant inspiration from that classic.

What’s MageTrain Like?

In MageTrain, you control a line of heroes that trail behind you like a snake, each autonomously attacking as you navigate through an arena. Your primary role is to strategically manage the positioning of your heroes within the line, as their abilities vary based on their position. This dynamic adds a layer of tactical depth to the gameplay.

At launch, MageTrain offers nine unique heroes, including one that uniquely throws birds. Each hero possesses distinct skills that change depending on whether they lead or follow in the train. As you progress, you'll traverse eight different dungeons, confront 28 types of enemies, and unlock 30 skills to enhance your team. Along the way, you'll collect gold and power-ups to bolster your squad.

The roguelike nature of MageTrain ensures that each run is unique. You'll navigate branching paths, make critical upgrade choices, and strive to survive as long as possible. Similar to games like Slay the Spire or FTL, there are no fixed levels, and you can't save your progress mid-run. If you make a mistake or get overwhelmed, you'll have to start over from scratch.

It Isn’t Slow-Paced

The thrill of MageTrain lies in the continuous improvement you experience with each run, even when you don't make it to the end. You'll learn when to play defensively, when to go on the offensive, and when to simply hold on for another 30 seconds. This learning curve keeps the game engaging and rewarding.

MageTrain is now available on Android and is free to play. Dive into the action and check it out on the Google Play Store today. And before you go, don't forget to read our next news piece on the newly released MLB Baseball Strategy Game, OOTP Baseball 26 Go!
