Marvel Rivals Developer Says There's Currently No Plan for a PvE Mode

Mar 25,2025 Author: Owen

Though Marvel Rivals is still a relatively new game, the community is buzzing with excitement about potential additions. Recent rumors have ignited speculation about a PvE boss fight, suggesting that a full PvE mode might be on the horizon. However, NetEase has recently clarified that there are no immediate plans for such a mode...yet.

At the DICE Summit in Las Vegas, we had the opportunity to speak with Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu about the possibility of a PvE mode. Here's what he shared:

"For now, we don't have any kind of a PvE plan, but our development team is continuously experimenting with new gameplay modes. So if we find that a new specific game mode is entertaining enough and fun enough, we would, of course, bring it to our audience."

Following Wu's comments, Marvel Games executive producer Danny Koo chimed in, asking if I wanted a PvE mode in Marvel Rivals. Upon confirming my interest, Wu elaborated:

"Yeah, we believe there are some of our audience that would like the PvE mode. But also, you can see that if we come up with a hardcore PvE experience, that will be totally a different distinctive experience from what we have right now. So our development team has been continuously experimenting with different approaches to achieve that goal, maybe a lighter mode, in a lighter sense of that, and to see what would work best for our game."

While there are currently no concrete plans for a PvE mode, Wu's statements suggest that NetEase is exploring ideas for a "lighter" game mode, possibly something like a one-off event. For now, the company remains tight-lipped about further details.

Marvel Rivals continues to evolve, with new characters being added every month and a half. The Human Torch and The Thing are set to join the roster on February 21. We also discussed the potential for a Nintendo Switch 2 release with Wu and Koo, which you can read about [ttpp]. Additionally, we addressed concerns about whether NetEase was trolling dataminers with fake hero "leaks" in the game's code.
