Marvel Rivals, the acclaimed hero shooter, is a smash hit on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. However, NetEase has confirmed it won't be coming to the original Nintendo Switch, leaving many Nintendo fans disappointed. But what about the Nintendo Switch 2?
We recently spoke with Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas. The news for Switch fans is promising! Wu stated: "We're already in contact with Nintendo and working on some development kits. Whenever we can provide a great performance for our game on the Switch 2, we're open to it. The reason we didn't launch on the original Switch was that the first-generation hardware couldn't deliver a satisfactory gameplay experience. If the Switch 2 can achieve that goal, we're definitely interested."
The Nintendo Switch 2 was officially unveiled last month. While specifics on its capabilities are still limited, it's expected to be a more powerful and enhanced system. Interestingly, it appears to incorporate mouse-like controller functionality, potentially making shooter games like Marvel Rivals feel more PC-like. The exact implementation remains to be seen.
The Nintendo Switch 2 release date is currently unannounced, but a Nintendo Direct is scheduled for April 2nd. Marvel Rivals is available now on other platforms, and we highly recommend it. Our 8/10 review praised the game, stating that it "may be following closely in the slipstream of the hero shooters that have come before it, but by doing so Marvel Rivals has firmly placed itself in a strong position to take the crown for itself." The Human Torch and The Thing are set to join the roster on February 21st.
