Elden Ring Nightreign Duos Mod Shown by Modder

One should never underestimate the determination of the modding community. Elden Ring Nightreign is now available, and within just 24 hours of its release, a prominent FromSoftware modder has already showcased a Duos mode modification.

Luke Yui, known for popular co-op mods in games such as Elden Ring and Armored Core VI, shared a brief video on their YouTube channel yesterday. The video demonstrates a two-player mod for Elden Ring Nightreign, enabling two Nightfarers to join forces instead of limiting players to solo or three-person teams.

It's worth noting that, at present, this is not a publicly accessible or playable mod; it is merely a proof-of-concept from Yui. They mentioned that the mod operates without connecting to the official matchmaking servers, so while it allows the use of additional mods during play, it also means bypassing standard in-game systems. Whether this becomes a practical solution or remains an intriguing experiment remains to be seen.

Play

While Elden Ring Nightreign supports solo play and three-player co-op, there is no built-in option for a two-player session. Players must either go it alone or matchmake to find a third teammate. This might seem like a minor inconvenience, but for duos who prefer to play exclusively together, it can be a significant letdown.

This issue has also emerged as a common complaint in the early reception of Nightreign. The absence of a duos mode has been mentioned in several negative reviews, and players are clearly struggling with the limitation. As one user on the Elden Ring subreddit noted, the Nightreign-specific subreddit has begun to resemble "a threesome matchmaking forum" due to the volume of players seeking a third.

In an interview with IGN, Elden Ring Nightreign director Junya Ishizaki acknowledged that the development team "overlooked the duos aspect," but confirmed it is something being evaluated for potential post-launch support. With such strong demand for a dedicated two-player mode, it's difficult to imagine the team ignoring the feedback.
