Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet promises to offer players a vastly expanded sense of freedom compared to the studio's earlier works. Drawing inspiration from the critically acclaimed Elden Ring, the developers are set to integrate similar mechanics focused on expansive open-world exploration. According to journalist Ben Hanson, the game unfolds on a single, vast planet where players will delve into the enigmas of a lost civilization and explore a newly emerging religion, which is poised to be a central narrative element. While it's uncertain how closely the game will align with traditional open-world concepts, it's clear that the team is steering away from the linear structures that characterized their past projects.

In a notable shift, The Heretic Prophet will mark the studio's first foray into a solo-player experience, devoid of companions or allies. As Neil Druckmann explains, the aim is to immerse players in a profound sense of solitude within an uncharted universe while thoroughly exploring themes of faith and religion. The narrative takes place in an alternate future on the planet Sempiria, isolated from the rest of the galaxy for over 600 years. It is on this mysterious world that bounty hunter Jordan Moon arrives, driven by her contract.

Druckmann further highlights that the game's development drew influence from iconic titles like Half-Life 2 and Monkey Island. This suggests a move away from conventional guidance, embracing a storytelling approach where players must actively piece together the narrative fragments themselves.

Announced at The Game Awards 2024, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet has yet to reveal its release date, leaving fans eagerly anticipating more details on this promising new venture.
