Netflix Unveils First MMO: Spirit Crossing Launches This Year

Netflix is diving into the MMO space with Spirit Crossing, a cozy life-sim crafted by beloved indie studio Spry Fox. The game was officially unveiled at GDC 2025, and if you’ve enjoyed Spry Fox’s previous titles like Cozy Grove or Cozy Grove: Camp Spirit, you’ll feel right at home.

What to Expect from Spirit Crossing

Drawing inspiration from Studio Ghibli aesthetics, French comics, and modern art styles such as Corporate Memphis, Spirit Crossing aims to create a world that feels both nostalgic and timeless. The visuals are soft, pastel-toned, and welcoming—perfect for players looking to unwind in a relaxing, community-driven environment.

Instead of focusing on competition, the game emphasizes connection, collaboration, and creativity. You’ll be able to:

  • Explore a vast, serene open world
  • Build and customize your dream home
  • Grow and nurture a vibrant village alongside friends
  • Gather resources, ride adorable fluffy creatures, and dance the night away at spontaneous in-game parties

Unique Gameplay Mechanics

One standout feature is the in-game calendar system that directly influences progression. Unlike fast-paced games where everything happens instantly, Spirit Crossing encourages patience and long-term planning. For example, trees you plant will take anywhere from three to six real-world months to fully grow into a harvestable orchard—a gameplay mechanic reminiscent of Cozy Grove.

This slow-burn design philosophy fosters deeper emotional investment and encourages players to form lasting bonds with both the game world and each other.

As Spry Fox co-founder David Edery explained, one of the core goals of Spirit Crossing is to help turn strangers into friends. It's a space designed for meaningful interactions, where players can grow together over time.
