Nexon has officially announced the impending shutdown of the global version of KartRider: Drift, which made its debut in January 2023 across mobile devices, consoles, and PCs. The game will cease operations globally across all platforms later this year, marking the end of its journey for international players.
Is It Shutting Down Its Asian Servers As Well?
Fortunately, the Asian servers of KartRider: Drift, specifically in Taiwan and South Korea, will continue to operate. These servers are slated for an upcoming update, though Nexon has kept the details under wraps. It remains unclear whether the global version might see a relaunch in the future. As of now, KartRider: Drift is still available for download on the Google Play Store, offering players a chance to experience it before the global shutdown later this year.
Why Did Nexon Announce KartRider: Drift Global Shutdown?
Since its launch, KartRider: Drift aimed to deliver a seamless racing experience to players worldwide. However, the journey was fraught with challenges. The game's heavy reliance on automation led to a monotonous grind, which frustrated many players. Additionally, technical issues such as poor optimization on certain Android devices and a series of bugs further hampered the game's performance. Despite efforts to improve, KartRider: Drift did not meet expectations, prompting Nexon to reconsider their strategy.
Consequently, Nexon is preparing to shut down the global version of KartRider: Drift and is shifting focus back to the PC platform in Korea and Taiwan. The aim is to rejuvenate the game's original vision and hopefully achieve success in its home markets.
