Small swords in NieR: Automata are known for their rapid attack speed and a compact hitbox in front of the wielder, making them a versatile choice against various enemy types throughout the game. While these weapons are effective, there are also powerful alternatives to consider, such as the Type-40 sword, which can be easily overlooked unless you actively pursue it.
The Type-40 sword stands out as a reward for completing the side quest "Find A Present," the culmination of a series of tasks centered around Operator 6O. To acquire this unique weapon, players must first finish two prerequisite side quests. Below is a step-by-step guide to triggering these quests and obtaining the Type-40 sword, including specific chapter requirements for those using Chapter Select.
How to Get the Type-40 Sword in NieR: Automata
After defeating Adam and Eve at the end of Chapter 5, you’ll receive a call from Operator 6O. This message, titled "Investigating Communications," is time-sensitive, so complete it immediately.
Progress the Main Story: Complete the next chapter and the events of the Forest Castle (Chapter 6). Then, start Chapter 7.
Talk to Pascal and Ask About A2: Once Chapter 7 begins, explore the city ruins to trigger another call from Operator 6O. This call prompts the quest "Terminal Repairs."
Return to the Resistance Camp: As you head back to the camp, you’ll receive a final call from Operator 6O. This call mentions flowers and sends you a new message via your inbox.
Start "Find a Present": Interact with the message to begin the quest.
Complete "Find a Present": Upon finishing this quest, the Type-40 sword will automatically be delivered to your inbox as a reward.
At Level 1, the Type-40 sword features a 5-hit combo for light attacks and a 3-hit combo for heavy attacks. Upgrading the weapon to Level 4 enhances its light attack combo to 7 hits and provides additional bonuses when stunning enemies. To achieve this, you’ll need Titanium Alloy for the upgrades.
Additional Rewards for Completing "Find a Present"
Upon finishing the quest, you’ll also receive the following items in the message:
- A130: Bomb
- Amber ×4
- 5,000 G
- 800 EXP
These rewards add value to the already impressive Type-40 sword, making it a worthwhile addition to your arsenal.
