In *NieR: Automata*, players have the exciting opportunity to explore a wide array of weapons across different types throughout the game's multiple playthroughs. Upgrading these weapons is key to keeping your favorites powerful and effective throughout your journey. You can upgrade them at any time at the Resistance Camp, but you'll need specific resources, one of which is Beast Hides. Here's how to get and farm them efficiently.
How To Get Beast Hides In NieR: Automata
Beast Hides are potential drops from wildlife such as moose and boar. These animals spawn randomly in designated areas of the map, typically steering clear of both players and nearby robots. You can easily spot them on your mini-map thanks to their white icons, which stand out against the black icons of machines. However, farming wildlife isn't as straightforward as farming machines, as they spawn less frequently, and you need to know where to find them.
Moose and boar appear exclusively in the ruined city and forest zones. Their behavior towards you depends on your level relative to theirs. Lower-level animals will flee when you attack, while higher-level ones might attack back or become aggressive if you get too close. Be prepared for a challenge, as wildlife boasts substantial health pools, making early encounters with higher or similarly leveled animals tough.
Using Animal Bait can help lure wildlife closer, making it easier to take them down. Since animals don't spawn continuously during the main storyline, you'll need to hunt them while exploring and seek out new spawns. Both wildlife and machines follow similar respawn rules:
- Fast traveling will respawn all enemies and wildlife.
- Moving far enough away will respawn enemies and wildlife in areas you've left behind.
- Triggering story events can also cause nearby enemies and wildlife to respawn.
Farming Beast Hides isn't easy, but it's manageable. Just make sure to hunt down all the wildlife you come across while navigating through the forest and city ruins. Beast Hides have a decent drop rate, so you won't need an excessive amount unless you're upgrading more weapons than you can actively use. Keep exploring, and you'll gather all the Beast Hides you need to keep your arsenal upgraded and ready for action.
