Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons May Function as Computer Mice
Emerging circumstantial evidence suggests the Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons might offer a novel functionality: acting as computer mice. While the widespread adoption of this mode by game developers remains uncertain, it aligns with Nintendo's history of innovative experimentation.
The evidence originates from Famiboards user LiC, who previously accessed Vietnamese customs data related to a suspected Nintendo parts supplier. This data source has fueled numerous Switch 2 rumors since mid-2024.
In early January 2025, LiC revealed further findings: shipping manifests referencing polyethylene (PE) adhesive tape described as "mouse soles" and intended "to stick to game console handles." This terminology, typically used for the bottom of computer mice, strongly hints at mouse-like functionality in the upcoming console.
Two "mouse sole" model numbers, LG7 and SML7, were identified. These designations are absent from public component databases, suggesting they represent unreleased products. The reported 90 x 90mm size of the tape pieces suggests they're large enough to cover the entire back of the Joy-Cons, potentially requiring trimming during assembly.
Not a Novel Concept: Lenovo Legion GO Precedent
While unconventional, a mouse-like controller mode isn't unprecedented. The Lenovo Legion GO, released in 2023, features a right controller that functions as a mouse when rotated sideways. Lenovo even includes a plastic housing to optimize its use as a mouse.
The Legion GO also shares rumored Switch 2 features like magnetic rails for controller attachment. This similarity offers a potential preview of Nintendo's hybrid console evolution.
