Gamers voiced widespread frustration last week when the Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order date shifted from April 9 to an uncertain future due to import tariffs imposed by President Trump, which disrupted financial markets and extended delays across the border. Nintendo Canada confirmed that pre-orders are also postponed, dashing hopes of securing a unit through relatives in places like Winnipeg.
"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not begin on April 9, 2025, to align with the yet-to-be-determined U.S. pre-order schedule," Nintendo of Canada stated to Canadian tech outlet MobileSyrup.
"Nintendo will share further details later. The launch date of June 5, 2025, remains unchanged."
This mirrors the statement Nintendo of America provided to IGN on April 4, though the Canadian version omits specific mention of tariffs.
Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start on April 9, 2025, as Nintendo evaluates the impact of tariffs and shifting market dynamics. Updated timing will be shared later. The launch date of June 5, 2025, remains unchanged.
With the original pre-order date passing, gamers are left waiting, anxiously refreshing browsers and verifying credit card details, worried about potential price hikes from the originally announced $449.99 price tag.
In other regions, Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders launched in the UK today, with smaller retailers like EE, GAME, and Smyths selling out rapidly, while scalpers on eBay listed units for £500 ($639) or more, compared to the retail price of £395.99 ($506).
