Following its Xbox and PC release, Palworld finally arrives on PlayStation consoles, as revealed during September 2024's PlayStation State of Play. However, a significant exception exists: the game's launch in Japan is indefinitely delayed.
Despite the global launch, Japanese PlayStation players are currently unable to access the game. This delay is strongly linked to ongoing legal action between Nintendo/Pokémon and Palworld's developer, Pocketpair.
Palworld's Japanese Twitter (X) account confirmed the global release, excluding Japan. They apologized for the delay and stated that a Japanese release date is yet to be determined. The statement emphasized their commitment to bringing the game to Japanese PS5 users as soon as possible.
While Pocketpair hasn't explicitly stated the cause, the ongoing patent infringement lawsuit filed by Nintendo in Tokyo District Court is widely considered the primary reason for the delay. This lawsuit seeks an injunction and damages, potentially leading to the game's shutdown if the injunction is granted.
