The Nintendo Switch 2 has been generating buzz, with many of the anticipated changes focusing on the innovative Joy-Cons, as hinted by recent patents. Although Nintendo has yet to officially confirm these details, emerging reports suggest that the Switch 2 Joy-Cons will feature magnetic attachments and might even function like a computer mouse, details that seem increasingly likely thanks to a series of patents filed by Nintendo.
According to the patent, "This game controller is detachably mounted to a body device that has a recess, that comprises a first magnet and a second magnet at the bottom of the recess, and that can execute game processing." This indicates that the Joy-Cons will attach magnetically to the Switch 2, enhancing ease of use and flexibility.
The patent further outlines the detachment mechanism, stating, "The first button and the second button are provided in the longitudinal direction in the top surface of the protrusion. The first button and the second button are to be pressed by a user. The first button is attracted to the first magnet by a magnetic force. The second button is attracted to the second magnet by a magnetic force." This dual-button system ensures secure attachment and easy removal of the Joy-Cons.
Interestingly, the patent also showcases the Joy-Cons' potential as a mouse. Illustrations depict players using the Joy-Cons railside down, with the shoulder buttons functioning as mouse buttons. Specifically, the R1 and R2 buttons would serve as the left and right mouse buttons, and there might be a scrolling function integrated with the joysticks.

Further images show versatile use of the mouse-like function, allowing for configurations such as dual mouse setups or using one Joy-Con as a mouse while the other functions as a standard game controller.
The magnetic attachment feature of the Joy-Cons was among the earliest leaks about the Switch 2, while the mouse-like function surfaced later and remains unofficially confirmed. However, a teaser released in January subtly showcased the Joy-Cons gliding across a surface, hinting at this innovative feature.
