Expedition Mechanics & Detonation
Atlas map nodes featuring Expeditions are marked with a light blue, spiral icon. Use an Expedition Precursor Tablet in a completed Lost Tower slot to guarantee an Expedition encounter.
Upon entering an Expedition map, locate the central Detonator and four NPCs. The NPCs offer basic instructions, but mastering the mechanics requires further exploration. The key is strategically placing Explosives near Markers to spawn enemies and chests.
- Runic Monsters: Spawn from Explosives near Red Markers. Larger markers yield larger monster packs, empowered by Unearthed Remnants.
- Unearthed Remnants: Relics granting beneficial or detrimental modifiers (e.g., increased elemental damage but higher item rarity from chests).
- Excavated Chests: Spawn from Explosives near Black Markers with the spiral symbol. Contain Artifacts, Logbooks, currency, Waystones, and high-tier gear.
Use the Explosives UI to visualize their area of effect (AoE). Avoid overlapping AoE circles for optimal farming. After placing Explosives, activate the Detonator. If overwhelmed, retreat and return later; the event doesn't end if you leave the area.
Expedition Pinnacle Map
Runic Monsters and Excavated Chests have a chance to drop Expedition Logbooks. Use these in Dannig's Hideout to access the Expedition Pinnacle Map – a significantly larger Expedition with increased Explosives.
The Pinnacle Map features Olroth, a challenging boss (skull icon on minimap). Defeating Olroth grants 2x Expedition Passive Skill Tree points.
Expedition Passive Skill Tree
Located within the Atlas Passive Skill Tree, the Expedition Passive Skill Tree enhances Expedition rewards and difficulty. It features eight Notable nodes and eight difficulty-increasing nodes for Logbooks. Defeating Olroth is crucial for obtaining points to invest in this tree.
