DC Studios head James Gunn has exciting news for fans, confirming that Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere on Max on August 21. Alongside this announcement, Gunn shared a brief clip of new footage featuring John Cena's character in action, with a smirk directed at the camera amidst a blazing fire. In the teaser, Peacemaker is declared "a superhero now," signaling a thrilling development in his journey.

Peacemaker Season 2 follows closely on the heels of the July 11 release of Superman, marking the beginning of Gunn's rebooted DCU. This series will be the third entry in the new universe, following last year's Creature Commandos TV series and this summer's Superman.

The new DCU, spearheaded by Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran, moves away from the critically panned DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. However, certain elements from the DCEU will carry over into the DCU. Peacemaker serves as a prime example of this transition, having debuted in the DCEU with its first season and now continuing into the new DCU with its second.

Gunn has previously mentioned that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," though specifics on what will transfer from the DCEU to the DCU remain undisclosed. He confirmed that all members of Team Peacemaker will return with the same actors, including John Cena as Peacemaker, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.

Furthermore, Gunn has indicated that Peacemaker Season 2 will take place after the events of Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's events even impacting Peacemaker's storyline.
