Guns Undarkness Will Launch Demo At Steam Next Fest

Guns Undarkness is gearing up to release a free demo at the upcoming Steam Next Fest. This project is helmed by none other than Shoji Meguro, the celebrated composer behind the Persona series and Metaphor: ReFantazio. Joining Meguro are Ilya Kuvshinov, the character artist from Ghost in the Shell, and Lotus Juice, the rapper known for his contributions to Persona 3.

Since starting his career with Atlus in 1995, Meguro has crafted unforgettable music for iconic titles like the Shin Megami Tensei and Persona series. In 2021, he ventured into indie game development while still collaborating with Atlus on their musical scores. Post-Atlus, Meguro has been focusing on a Sci-Fi Stealth Action JRPG, which will be published under Kodansha Game Creators Lab.

The game was first unveiled at Indie Live Expo Winter 2021 and launched a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2022, surpassing its stretch goals. The eagerly awaited free demo will be available at Steam Next Fest on February 24, 2025, with the full game slated for early access later in the year.

Inspired by Metal Gear Solid and Persona

Guns Undarkness is described on its Steam page as a "turn-based tactical JRPG inspired by games like Metal Gear Solid and Persona." Set in the year 2045, the game's narrative unfolds in a world teetering on the edge of collapse. Players will assume the role of a member of a private military company, embarking on missions alongside allies to unravel the world's secrets and save humanity.

The gameplay of Guns Undarkness is divided into two key elements: stealth and combat. In stealth mode, players navigate the game environment undetected, gaining tactical advantages when engaging enemies. The combat phase switches to a turn-based system where players command their characters and utilize various firearms to overcome adversaries.

The Guns Undarkness demo will offer approximately 20 minutes of gameplay, encompassing a tutorial on basic controls, the battle system, weapons, and strategies for the game's early stages. The full game is scheduled for an Early Access release in Spring 2025, providing around 10 hours of gameplay on PC. While no specific release date has been officially announced, the anticipation for this title continues to build.
