Speculation about Starfield coming to PlayStation 5 intensified over the weekend after eagle-eyed fans noticed a PlayStation logo on Bethesda's official Creations website. The logo was linked to a work-in-progress ship decals Creation for Starfield, which was subsequently removed. Despite this, the gaming community is abuzz with the possibility that Bethesda's sci-fi title, currently exclusive to PC and Xbox, might soon be available on PS5.
The discovery has sparked discussions about potential new content updates or even a major expansion that could coincide with Starfield's rumored PS5 release. The game's last significant update, the Shattered Space expansion, was not well-received, leaving fans hungry for more substantial developments. Bethesda's parent company, Microsoft, is anticipated to host another summer showcase, which could be the perfect platform to unveil new information about Starfield.
Amidst growing player frustration over a lack of updates and communication, Bethesda has promised "exciting things" for Starfield in 2024. In June, the studio reaffirmed its commitment to the game, announcing at least one more story expansion post-Shattered Space. In an interview with YouTube channel MrMattyPlays, Bethesda Game Studios' Todd Howard expressed the goal of releasing an annual story expansion for Starfield "for hopefully a very long time."

Starfield debuted in September 2023, marking Bethesda's first new intellectual property in years and its first major single-player game since Microsoft's acquisition of ZeniMax Media in March 2021. IGN's review of Starfield scored it a 7/10, praising its expansive roleplaying quests and solid combat mechanics despite various challenges.
In January, Microsoft's gaming chief, Phil Spencer, hinted at the possibility of Starfield coming to PS5. Reports from March 2024 suggested that both Starfield and MachineGames' Indiana Jones and the Great Circle were under consideration for PS5. While Indiana Jones has been confirmed for a PS5 release in spring 2025, Starfield remains unconfirmed, though Spencer's comments have kept the speculation alive.
Several Xbox titles are already available on PS5, including Sea of Thieves, Hi-Fi Rush, Grounded, and Pentiment. Microsoft also publishes Minecraft on PlayStation and plans to release Doom: The Dark Ages and Ninja Gaiden 4 on PS5 later this year. Forza Horizon 5 is also slated for a PS5 release. There are even whispers that Microsoft might bring Halo to PlayStation, ending decades of exclusivity.

Phil Spencer has explained that Xbox's multiplatform strategy is partly driven by the need to increase revenue for Microsoft's gaming division, especially after the massive $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard. In an interview last August, Spencer emphasized the high expectations within Microsoft and the need to deliver strong results across consoles, PCs, and cloud platforms.
