While Pokémon TCG Pocket was an exciting launch for many, it encountered its first major challenge with the trading feature. Initially, trading was hindered by the need for scarce currency and numerous restrictions on what could be traded and with whom. However, a new update promises to address these issues.
To start, Trade Tokens are being completely removed, eliminating the need to exchange cards for trading currency. Instead, trading cards of three-diamond, four-diamond, and one-star rarity will now require Shinedust. You'll acquire Shinedust by opening booster packs and receiving cards already registered in your Card Dex.
Existing Trade Tokens can be converted into Shinedust. Given that Shinedust is also needed to obtain flair, further changes are planned. An upcoming update will introduce an in-game function allowing you to share cards you're interested in trading.
As previously noted, the initial implementation of trading seemed half-hearted. The challenge lies in the necessity for more restrictions in a digital ecosystem to prevent abuse, which differs significantly from real-life trading.
These changes, however, are not expected until autumn, at the earliest, leaving us in spring with a wait that feels longer than many would prefer. While Pokémon TCG Pocket has acknowledged these issues, the pace of addressing them has been slower than anticipated.
