Sega Embraces Risk, Fostering New IPs and Ideas

RGG Studio currently has several major projects underway, including a brand-new IP. Despite the upcoming releases of the next Like a Dragon title and a Virtua Fighter remake in 2025, the studio recently unveiled two additional projects: a testament to Sega's support. Studio head and director Masayoshi Yokoyama credits Sega's open approach to risk-taking for these opportunities.
In early December, RGG released trailers for both Project Century (a new IP set in 1915 Japan) and a new Virtua Fighter project (distinct from the Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. remaster). The scale and ambition of these projects highlight the studio's creative drive, and Sega's confidence in their ability to deliver. This reflects a strong trust in RGG Studio and a commitment to exploring uncharted territory.

"Sega embraces the possibility of failure," Yokoyama explained to Famitsu, as translated by Automaton Media. "It doesn't shy away from projects that aren't guaranteed successes. That's part of Sega's DNA." He cites the creation of Shenmue as an example: born from Sega's desire to experiment, asking "What if we made 'VF' into an RPG?"
RGG Studio assures fans that the simultaneous development of these projects won't compromise quality, particularly for the Virtua Fighter franchise. Original Virtua Fighter creator Yu Suzuki has expressed his support, and Yokoyama, along with Virtua Fighter Project producer Riichiro Yamada, emphasize their commitment to delivering a high-quality product.

Yamada adds, "With the new 'VF,' we aim to create something innovative and exciting for everyone! Whether you're a long-time fan or new to the series, we hope you'll stay tuned for more updates." Yokoyama echoes this sentiment, expressing his excitement for both upcoming titles.
