Sadie Sink Denies Jean Grey Rumors, Calls Them 'Awesome'

Earlier this month, Sadie Sink, renowned for her role as Max Mayfield in the hit series *Stranger Things*, was reported to be joining the cast of Spider-Man 4 alongside Tom Holland. According to Deadline, Sink, who first graced the screen in the 2016 film *Chuck*, is slated to star in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) installment, set to begin filming later this year and scheduled for release on July 31, 2026.

Neither Marvel nor Sony provided any comments when approached by Deadline, but the outlet speculated that Sink might portray the iconic X-Men character Jean Grey or another beloved redheaded character from the Spider-Man universe. Following this, IGN explored various Marvel characters Sadie Sink could potentially play in *Spider-Man 4* and beyond within the MCU.

In a recent interview with Josh Horowitz, Sadie Sink remained enigmatic about the rumors linking her to the role of Jean Grey from the X-Men. When confronted with the speculation, Sink responded, "This is news to me," yet she acknowledged the rumor as "awesome." She confirmed she has not had any discussions with Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige or any other Marvel representatives regarding Jean Grey, stating, "I have nothing to say about this." However, she expressed enthusiasm for the character, saying, "It’s a great character, so it was cool to read!" Sink also showed excitement about the prospect of dedicating significant time and energy to a role in the MCU, stating, "I think that’s super exciting."

The interview concluded with Sink keeping her options open, hinting at a future conversation once her involvement in the MCU might be confirmed. Horowitz suggested revisiting the topic in the future when Sink's role could be officially announced.

Late last year, Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios, hinted at the introduction of X-Men characters in the "next few" MCU movies. Speaking at the Disney APAC Content Showcase in Singapore, Feige mentioned that fans would encounter "some X-Men players that you might recognize" in upcoming films, although he did not specify which characters or movies.

Regarding the integration of the X-Men into the MCU, Feige further elaborated, "I think you will see that continues in our next few movies with some X-Men players that you might recognize. Right after that, the whole story of Secret Wars really leads us into a new age of mutants and of the X-Men. Again, [it’s] one of those dreams come true. We finally have the X-Men back."

Assuming "few" refers to three movies, the next MCU releases at the time of Feige's comments were Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps set for July 2025. However, it's more likely that mutant characters will appear throughout Phase 6, including films like Avengers: Doomsday and Spider-Man 4 in 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. There's also speculation about the return of Deadpool and Wolverine, and whether Channing Tatum might reprise his role as Gambit.

Feige emphasized that the X-Men will play a crucial role in the MCU's future post-*Secret Wars*. He said, "When we were preparing for *Avengers: Endgame* years ago, it was a question of getting to the grand finale of our narrative, and then we had to start all over again after that. This time, on the road to *Secret Wars*, we already know very well what the story is going to be until then and afterwards. The X-Men are an important part of that future."

This suggests that Phase 7 will be heavily influenced by the X-Men, while in the short term, the character Storm made her first appearance in the wider MCU in *What If...? Season 3*. Additionally, Marvel Studios added three untitled movie projects to its 2028 release schedule, increasing the likelihood that one of these will be an X-Men film.
